We were approached with a request to redesign a built-in traditional butsudan as part of a home renovation. Listening carefully to the couple’s vision, we translated their thoughts into detailed drawings. The piece features a slender steel frame supporting a walnut body, with a pull-out shelf for offerings. It balances the dignity of a traditional altar with the presence of fine furniture. A butsudan that lives within the rhythm of everyday life. A butsudan that honors tradition while blending naturally into modern homes.
