こんにちは。
沖縄は先日、梅雨明けしました。
久しぶりの明るい青空。
蝉の鳴き声。
そして、下がらない湿度。
いよいよ夏本番です。
この雨続きで、ゴーヤーが通年の３倍の価格だと残念なニュースも小耳に挟みましたが、しばらく休んでいたランニングも再開しました。
走る前はいつもダルいのですが、やっぱり体を動かすと気持ちが良いものですね。
皆さまのお住まいの地域はいかがでしょうか。
Hello,
The rainy season has finally come to an end here in Okinawa.
Bright blue skies have returned.
Cicadas are singing.
The humidity remains as high as ever.
Summer has truly arrived.
The long rainy season has apparently driven the price of goya—Okinawa’s beloved bitter melon—to nearly three times its usual cost, which was a bit disappointing to hear.
On the brighter side, I’ve started running again after taking a break during the weeks of rain.I always feel a little reluctant before I head out, but once I’m moving, I’m reminded how good it feels to be active.
How has the season been where you are?
今日は展示会のお知らせから。
7月に予定していた展示会『PULSE』ですが、12月へ延期することになりました。
理由はひとつ。
作品と向き合う時間が、もう少し欲しかったからです。
先月のお手紙でも触れましたが、
手を動かしているうちに、最初には見えていなかった景色が少しずつ見えてきました。
裏地を貼ったり、
フレームへ縫い止めたり、
また外してみたり。
そうして試作を重ねる中で、もう少し先まで見てみたいと思うようになったのです。
予定通り開催することもできました。
けれど、このまま進めたら、きっと誰かが少し心残りを抱えたまま終わってしまう。
それは、emaのまいちゃんかもしれないし、
TEORI WORKSのまりえさんかもしれないし、
私たちIndigoかもしれません。
そして何より、見に来てくださる皆さまに対しても、もう一歩先まで辿り着いた作品を見ていただきたいと思いました。
楽しみにして下さっていた皆さま、本当に申し訳ありません！
絶対素敵な展示になるとしか思えない！前向きな決断です。
冬空の下、素材感が引き立つ柔らかな灯りをどうぞお楽しみに。
追って進捗をご報告できたらと思います。
We’d like to begin with an update about our upcoming exhibition.
“PULSE,” originally planned for July, has been postponed until December.
The reason is simple:
we wanted a little more time to stay with the work.
As I mentioned in last month’s letter, the more we worked with the pieces, the more new possibilities began to emerge.Adding lining fabric.
Stitching it onto the frame.
Removing it again.
Repeating these small adjustments revealed things we couldn’t see at the beginning.
We could have proceeded as planned.
But doing so would have meant finishing with a lingering sense that there was still more to explore.
That feeling might belong to Mai of ema,
or Marie of TEORI WORKS,
or perhaps to us at Indigo.
Most importantly, we wanted to share work that had reached just a little further with those who take the time to visit.
To everyone who was looking forward to the exhibition, we sincerely apologize.
At the same time, this decision comes not from hesitation, but from a desire to create something stronger and more complete.
We hope you’ll join us in December, when these materials and forms can be seen in their best light beneath the winter sky.
We’ll continue sharing updates along the way.

工場では、本土で3人展をご予定の亞人のタパ（梶の木の樹皮布）の額装も終盤に入っています。今回お預かりしたタパは小ぶりな作品が多かったため、５角形や８角形の古材額に収めて仕立てることにしました。
相方は木枠やガラスの加工を。
私は塗装と仕上げを。
役割分担をして作業を進めています。
表情が同じでない古材を生かすには、経験がモノをいうと思うこの頃。
木の表面を削り、
補修をし、
手触りを確かめ、
塗装を重ねる。
同じやり方では通用しないことも多くて、経験がよい塩梅を図る一番の道具なのです。
最近の工場のBGMはオーケストラのクラシック。
木を削る音や機械の音に混ざって流れる音楽が、心地よい作業時間をつくってくれています。
Back in the workshop, we’re nearing completion on a series of frames for tapa cloth works by Ajin, who will be participating in a three-person exhibition on the mainland.
Many of the pieces are small in scale, so we’ve chosen to house them in reclaimed-wood frames shaped as pentagons and octagons.
My partner works on the glass and backing boards.
I focus on finishing the frames.
It’s a rhythm we’ve naturally fallen into over the years.
Frame-making has a way of quieting the mind.
Measuring.
Shaping.
Touching the surface.
Making small adjustments.
Every piece of reclaimed wood carries a different character.
Lately I’ve been reminded how much experience matters when working with these materials.
There is rarely one correct method.
Instead, experience becomes the tool that helps you find balance.
Recently, the soundtrack in the workshop has been orchestral music.
Mixed with the sounds of planers and sanding machines, it makes for a surprisingly pleasant atmosphere.
Indigoの最近のお仕事もご紹介できたらと思います。
首里にあるカフェCONTE＿さんより額装のご依頼をいただきました。
CONTE＿と言えば、沖縄を舞台に人々の営みや文化を丁寧に紡ぐ『CONTE MAGAZINE』を発刊されている、あのCONTE＿です。
明日までCONTE MAGAZINE vol.3発売記念の企画展が開催されていて、私たちは展示に関わる額装とその他数点をお納めしました。
本来なら作品を収めたお写真をご紹介したいところなのですが、展示中でもありますので、今回は以前額装させていただいたCONTE MAGAZIN vol.3の表紙を飾るLeeさんの絵をご紹介させて下さい。
先日お店に伺った際、美味しいランチと共にLeeさんの作品を拝見しました。
もちろん作品も素晴らしかったのですが、印象に残ったのは店内に流れる空気でした。
老若男女、さまざまなお客様が思い思いの時間を過ごしていて、その場に漂う穏やかな空気に思わず見入ってしまいました。
良いお店です。
機会がありましたら、ぜひ足を運んでみてくださいね。
We’d also like to share one of our recent projects.
We were commissioned by Café CONTE_ in Shuri to create several custom frames.
Many of you may know CONTE_ as the publisher of CONTE MAGAZINE, a publication that thoughtfully explores everyday life and culture in Okinawa.
A special exhibition celebrating the release of Volume 3 is currently on view through tomorrow, and we had the opportunity to contribute framing and several other pieces to the exhibition.
Normally, we would love to show you photographs of the framed works themselves. However, as the exhibition is still underway, we’ll save those for another time
Instead, we’d like to share an illustration by Lee, which we had the pleasure of framing for the cover of CONTE MAGAZINE Vol.3.
When we visited recently, we spent some time with the exhibition of works by Lee, who created the magazine’s cover artwork.
The work itself was wonderful.
But what stayed with us most was the atmosphere of the café.
People of all ages spending time in their own way.
A calm and welcoming energy filling the room.
It’s a special place.
If you ever find yourself in Shuri, we highly recommend stopping by.

It seems we’ve been talking quite a bit about frames in this letter!
Framing is actually something we receive requests for more often than you might think.
We’d love to share more about our framing work in a future letter.
Our next letter is planned for July 18.
Perhaps we’ll be able to share more of the exhibition preparations, as well as a recent project for a jewelry shop.
As always, we continue working steadily with our hands, while thinking about future pieces, future homes, and the people who will live with them.
The hot summer days are here to stay, so please take good care of yourselves.
